If you read Preseide t Steve's message for January (sent by email) do you feel compelled to become involved? Will Evans threw out an idea regarding a foundation similar to other areas. The tackling of the issue is beyond the scope of SJCFA, but we as individuals are certainly welcomed to become involved. I thought I would put the idea train here on the message board for others to comment.

First step is to get the state to even realize they have a problem. They know they have a big problem with Barnegat Bay, but believe they don't want to know about any other problems as it would appear things have gotten worse under their watch. They all wish it would go away as the problem is so huge.
Down in Florida they got everyone on board as their problem was so severe it was effecting tourism, and reale state values. Their water got so bad they had huge fish kills, and you could not swim in the water. Their problem was so visible. They had brown ugly water flowing into crystal clear water and you could not miss it.

The first step is figuring out how to illustrate, and the best organization to tackle the problem, and that cannot be SJCFA. We should think about starting a separate Foundation that would be more encompassing than just fly fishing.

New Jersey finally realizes they have a problem, but it way beyond throwing money at it. That is if NJ had any money to throw. They still have the smallest budget of any state along the coast including New Hampshire with it's 8 miles of coast line. New Jersey Marine Fisheries budget is around $670,000.00 (not even a million) New Hampshire is many millions more. There was a big meeting this spring where all the groups that cared. (Tackle Manufacturers, Boat Builders, Marina Operators and everyone effected got together and talk) The only thing that came out of it was that we have a problem with no solutions in sight. There were even some politicians there. It could eventually kill tourism when the water gets too bad to swim in, but until then there is nothing being done or proposed that I know about.
